Women's Development Center
Since its inception in 2005, the Women’s Development Centre has focused on taking illiterate women with various stages of competency and equipping them with the skills to find meaningful employment. The Centre focuses on a variety of training programs including reading and writing English, basic computer knowledge, small scale business tools and HIV/AIDS awareness in four levels of study.
Over the year, the Centre has graduated over 500 women and trained over 1,000 women. Several of these women who were illiterate are now business owners, government employees, teachers and caterers. Many have found great success in personal enterprise. Some graduates have pursed further education in technical schools and universities.
As a result of the Centre’s impact, women who have graduated from the Centre have gained respect from their partners as they have also become income earners. Moreover, the education gained from the Centre has contributed to alleviating and breaking the cycle of poverty.
