WDC: Hairdressing

The centre opened its Hairdressing school on Nov. 16, 2011.

The mission of the WDC is to develop and support the full participation of women and girls in every aspect of society through training and education programs. As such, the WDC has established a hairdressing school as its first technical training to support the community and the women who graduate from the Centre with more opportunity for advancement.
The hair dressing program will equip students to participate in the hairdressing field which is a popular aspect of black women. Moreover, it provides a trade for those who attend the school. Many will have the opportunity to own their own salon businesses, be entrepreneurs and hence produce income for their families. WDC’s hairdressing program will encompass various components including: Sterilization and sanitation, Salon management, Reception and Appointments, Professional Ethics, managing a business, Heath and Safety and Elementary Electricity.

Silent Cry

ANIDA is now set to expand its Silent Cry Project to Jamaica, with the expectation of making a significant impact on the lives of impoverished Jamaican children by providing impoverished children access to the basic need of education, healthcare, clothing and nourishment.
Presently, we have 18 children waiting to be sponsored from the parish of St. Elizabeth. Many of these children do not attend school on a daily basis due to lack of funds. Some of them are born to young women who have several children in one bedroom homes. Others have been abandoned by their mothers on their grandparents. Some of these parents cannot be found and many of the fathers are not involved in the lives of the children.
ANIDA will give hope for a brighter future to the children we will service in Jamaica, much like the numerous number of children through our Ghana sponsorship program are being educated, fed, clothed and kept in good health, our Jamaica sponsorship program will given the children we will serve a chance to improve the living standard of their families and potentially through education alleviate the poverty for future generations.

On December 20th, Lorraine, the ANIDA Jamaica Coordinator along with Scotiabank Jamaica and the 18 children will hold a ceremony to commemorate the establishment of ANIDA Jamaica.
